Soyful Studio Case Study

Overview

I combined my love for plant-based cooking with my design skill set to create a brand for a vegetarian kitchen studio. I called the fictitious company 'Soyful Studios'. Through process and iteration, I developed a strong brand for the business, designed a comprehensive brand guideline book, and created other key brand materials.

Research

To develop Soyful Studios, I began by benchmarking existing cooking studios to understand how they positioned themselves and engaged with their audiences. I studied brands like Tablespoon Cooking Company, Sprouts Cooking School, and Cozymeal, examining their missions, values, social media strategies, and visual identities. These insights shaped Soyful Studios’ playful, vibrant personality.

Brand Ideation

  • I ideate quickly to get all of my ideas out on paper. In this stage, no idea is a bad idea.

  • Next, I select some of my favorite sketches and refine them in higher fidelity.

  • Next, I choose four main concepts (columns) and create two variations for each (rows).

  • After choosing a main concept, I play around to get myself comfortable in its style.

  • Lastly, I iterate on design ideas for a mascot named 'Soybert.'

Brand Guidelines

A significant part of a brand's identity is maintaining consistent messaging. To make Soyful Studio’s identity clear, I created its brand guidelines, which outline the tone of voice, key messaging, brand mark usage, color palette, typography, and imagery.

Other Deliverables

I wanted the brand to feel more real, so I mocked up a few key deliverables that carry over Soyful Studio’s brand to a few different mediums. With the cookbook and apron, I was able to improve my InDesign and illustration skills, respectively.
